Catamounts Celebrate Standout Seasons at Annual CESPY Awards

Keyser, W.Va. – The WVU Potomac State College Athletic Department honored a year of excellence, achievement, and culture with its annual CESPY Awards, recognizing the top student-athletes who made a lasting impact both in competition and in the classroom during the 2025-26 academic year.

Freshman of the Year (Women): Cassidy Cumberledge (Women’s Cross Country)

Cassidy Cumberledge delivered a historic debut season for the Catamounts, emerging as one of the premier distance runners in Region 20. She captured the individual Region 20 Championship while leading Potomac State to its fourth consecutive team title. Cumberledge set a new program record in the 6K and posted the second-fastest 5K time in school history, signaling her immediate impact on the program. With three individual meet victories and a 67th-place finish at the NJCAA National Championship, her freshman campaign established a new standard and points to even greater success ahead.

Freshman of the Year (Men): Jaxon Drennen (Baseball)

Jaxon Drennen proved to be a dynamic two-way force in his first season, contributing at a high level both at the plate and on the mound. Appearing in 47 games, Drennen hit .371 with 56 hits, 11 home runs, and 68 RBIs while posting a .487 on-base percentage and .669 slugging percentage. On the mound, he tallied 67 strikeouts across 41 innings, averaging an impressive 14.71 strikeouts per nine innings. His versatility and production made him a cornerstone of the Catamounts’ success, and he will continue his career at Coastal Carolina University.

Scholar Athlete of the Year (Women): Sarah Iman (Volleyball)

Sarah Iman combined elite performance on the court with exceptional academic success. The sophomore led the Catamounts offense with 214 kills, averaging 3.51 kills per set, and recorded a season-high 21 kills against Penn State Fayette. Her efforts earned her First Team All-Region 20 honors, while she finished ranked among the program’s all-time leaders—6th in kills per game and 11th in total kills. In the classroom, Iman completed 91 credits while maintaining a 3.92 GPA. She will continue both her academic and athletic career at Mount Aloysius College, pursuing a degree in education.

Scholar Athlete of the Year (Men): Will Boddy (Men’s Cross Country)

Will Boddy exemplified the true meaning of a student-athlete, achieving a perfect 4.0 GPA while completing 72 college credits. On the course, Boddy showed consistent improvement throughout the season and played a key role in helping the Catamounts secure the Region 20 Championship. His commitment to excellence in both academics and athletics highlights the standard of success within the program.

Catamount Culture Award (Women): Meghan Harris (Women’s Soccer & Women’s Basketball)

Meghan Harris embodied the spirit of the Catamounts through her selfless approach and unwavering commitment to her teams and campus community. Known for her physical and gritty play, Harris consistently put her team first in every situation. Beyond competition, she remained highly active on campus, volunteering her time and even serving as the Catamount mascot at events. Her leadership and willingness to give back made her a natural choice for this honor.

Catamount Culture Award (Men): Nasir Cheatham (Men’s Basketball & Men’s Track & Field)

Nasir Cheatham’s impact extended far beyond competition, as he consistently represented Potomac State with pride and positivity. A dedicated and hardworking student-athlete, Cheatham made an impression through his daily interactions by encouraging teammates and inspiring younger athletes. Whether mentoring local middle and high school students or uplifting those around him in practice, he demonstrated what it means to be a true ambassador for the Catamounts.

Athlete of the Year (Women): Skyla Compton (Softball)

Skyla Compton put together one of the most dominant offensive seasons in the nation, leading the Catamounts with staggering production at the plate. In 35 games, she hit .555 with 61 hits, 19 home runs, and 69 RBIs, while scoring 54 runs and adding 17 stolen bases. Her .617 on-base percentage and 1.255 slugging percentage underscore her ability to impact the game in every facet. Compton’s remarkable season solidified her status as one of the top hitters in the country.

Athlete of the Year (Men): Rodney Vilsaint (Men’s Basketball)

Rodney Vilsaint served as the engine for the Catamounts, starting all 30 games and leading the team with 14.5 points per game. The primary guard shot 41.4% from the field, 32.1% from three-point range, and 77.9% from the free-throw line, while also contributing 5.1 rebounds per game. Averaging nearly 28 minutes per contest, Vilsaint delivered consistent production and leadership, earning All-Region Second Team and All-Tournament honors. He will continue his basketball career at Emory & Henry University.

From record-breaking performances to academic excellence and leadership within the community, this year’s CESPY Award winners showcased the very best of Potomac State Athletics.
