Charles Raymond Smith, Sr., age 100 of Moorefield, WV, passed away Monday morning, May 4, 2026, at Grant Rehabilitation and Care Center in Petersburg, WV. Born on October 12, 1925, in Moorefield, WV, he was the son of the late Raymond S Smith and Iona Elizabeth Whitacre Smith. His wife, Virginia Armeda Kline Smith preceded him in death in January 2012. He was also preceded in death by a brother and a sister. Charles was the last member of his immediate family.

Charles was a true lover of the great outdoors—whether hunting, fishing, or enjoying camping trips with Virginia, he embraced every moment in nature. He found joy in tending to his summer garden, sharing his harvest with friends and family. In his later years, you could find him relaxing on his front porch, swinging gently as he savored the simple pleasures of life. When the weather didn’t cooperate, he delighted in watching classic westerns and the laughterfilled antics of “Sanford and Son.”

Surviving is a son, Charles R. Smith, Jr. and numerous nieces and nephews.

To honor his extraordinary journey, we invite family and friends to gather for funeral services on Monday, May 11, 2026, at 1:00 PM at the Fraley Funeral Home Chapel, located at 107 Washington Street. Pastors Russell and Lucy Webster will guide us in remembering and celebrating Charles’s life. Following the service, we will pay our respects during interment, where military graveside rites will be accorded by the U.S. Army and the Moorefield Veteran’s Honor Guard.

The family will welcome friends starting at 11:00 AM until the time of the service. It will be a day of reminiscence, love, and celebration—a true tribute to Charles’s rich life.

To offer condolences, share memories, or upload photos in honor of Charles’s extraordinary life, visit his Tribute Wall at www.fraleyfuneralhome.com and celebrate the impact he made on all those around him.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Fraley Funeral Home.
