East Hardy Varsity Lady Cougars couldn’t keep up with Elkins Varsity Tigers and fell 17-2 on Saturday at East Hardy Elementary School.
Elkins Varsity Tigers got on the board in the top of the first inning after Elkins Varsity Tigers scored on a passed ball, and B Washington singled down the left field line, each scoring one run.
Elkins Varsity Tigers extended their early lead with four runs in the top of the second thanks to RBI singles by A Millett and Gabby Mahanes.
Elkins Varsity Tigers extended their early lead with three runs in the top of the third thanks to RBI singles by Maddie Lambert, L Cade, and A Millett.
Elkins Varsity Tigers scored seven runs on eight hits in the top of the fourth inning. Maddie Lambert singled, scoring one run, Hailey Riffle singled, scoring one run, M Tarley tripled, scoring four runs, and A Carr doubled, scoring one run.
Maddie Lambert earned the win for Elkins Varsity Tigers. The starter allowed seven hits and two runs over four and two-thirds innings, striking out four and walking none. Alexis Baker stepped in the circle first for East Hardy Varsity Lady Cougars. The pitcher surrendered 21 hits and 16 runs over four and two-thirds innings, striking out three and walking seven.
Madison Strosnider and Jaylynn Combs were a force together in the lineup, as they each collected two hits for East Hardy Varsity Lady Cougars. Bella Bauserman and Madison Strosnider were a one-two punch in the lineup, as each drove in one run for East Hardy Varsity Lady Cougars.
Elkins Varsity Tigers tallied 21 hits in the game. B Washington went 5-for-5 at the plate to lead Elkins Varsity Tigers in hits. Maddie Lambert and M Tarley each drove in three runs for Elkins Varsity Tigers. Hailey Riffle, Madyson Shreve, Gabby Mahanes, and A Millett each collected multiple hits for Elkins Varsity Tigers. M Tarley paced Elkins Varsity Tigers with two walks. Overall, the team had patience at the plate, accumulating seven walks for the game. Hailey Riffle, Gabby Mahanes, and M Tarley each stole multiple bases for Elkins Varsity Tigers. Elkins Varsity Tigers stole 10 bases in the game. Elkins Varsity Tigers didn’t commit a single error in the field. A Carr had the most chances in the field with six.
