Ivan James Strawderman, of Wardensville, WV, passed away on February 28, 2026, his 83rd birthday. He was born on February 28, 1943, in Inkerman, WV. A son of the late Marvin and Dottie Marie Shanholtz Strawderman.
Ivan dedicated 32 years to Fleetwood Travel Trailers in Winchester, VA, and most recently worked as a lumber associate for Lowe’s in Winchester, VA. A graduate of Moorefield High School, Ivan was a devoted member of the Wardensville Volunteer Rescue Squad, where he had previously served as captain. He was also a faithful member of Marvin Chapel United Methodist Church in Wardensville.
An avid outdoorsman, Ivan loved hunting and was a passionate sports fan who proudly supported the East Hardy Cougars at their sporting events. Above all, his most treasured moments were spent with his grandchildren.
On June 9, 1968, Ivan married Reetta Vance Strawderman in Wardensville, WV. Surviving with his wife of 57 years are two daughters, Kimberly D. “Kim” Swisher of Wardensville, WV, and Anna M. Russell and her husband, Jonathan, of Bunker Hill, WV; two brothers, Paul and Johnny Strawderman, both of Baker, WV; four sisters, Lola Bourelle of Romney, WV, Mary Sue McFadden of Needmore, PA, Judy Reel of Fisher, WV, and Bonnie Funk of McConnellsburg, PA; and six grandchildren, Andrew “AJ” Swisher, Christopher Russell, Brianna Russell, Natalie Swisher, Katelyn Swisher, and Alexander Russell.
In addition to his parents, Ivan was preceded in death by one brother, Earl Strawderman, and a half-sister, Rose Pitcock.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday, March 4, 2026, at the Wardensville United Methodist Church from 6 to 8 p.m.
A funeral service will be held on Thursday, March 5, 2026, at 11 a.m. at the church. Officiating will be Reverends Dennis Adams and Robert Oakley. Interment will follow in Greenfield Cemetery, just outside of Wardensville, WV with Pastor Phillip Brumback officiating. There will be a time of food and fellowship immediately following the committal.
