Victoria “Vickie” Orndorff Dyer, 74, of Wardensville, WV, went home to be with the Lord on Friday, October 3, 2025, at the Winchester Medical Center, surrounded by her loving family.

Born on February 17, 1951, in Winchester, VA, she was the daughter of the late James Holland Orndorff and Marie Heltzel Crawford (William F. Crawford).

Vickie dedicated her life to caring for others, both personally and professionally. She worked as a compassionate medical assistant for Winchester Women’s Specialists and E.A. Hawse Health, where her kindness and steady presence comforted countless patients and families through the years.

A proud and deeply involved member of her community, Vickie gave her heart to Wardensville. She served as a valued board member for Hardy Telecommunications for 19 years and was a longtime member of the Wardensville Rescue Squad. Her devotion to her hometown was evident in her leadership as chairperson of the Wardensville Community Center and in her instrumental role in maintaining the beloved J. Allen Hawkins Community Park. She was also an active supporter of the East Hardy Athletic Boosters, cheering on local athletes with her trademark enthusiasm and pride.

Vickie had a passion for gardening and a love for all sports. She found joy in watching westerns, rooting for the WVU Mountaineers, and tending to her flowers. Yet, her greatest happiness came from her family. Time spent with her grandchildren was the light of her life, and her face would always brighten when they were near.

On February 17, 1967, Vickie married the love of her life, James R. “Jimmy” Dyer, in Winchester, VA. Together, they shared a beautiful marriage filled with laughter, devotion, and partnership until Jimmy’s passing on January 10, 2006. Their reunion in Heaven brings comfort to those who love them both.

She is survived by her daughters, Tammy Miller and Ann Dyer, both of Wardensville, WV; two sisters, Linda J. Cooley and Brenda M. Orndorff; three grandchildren, Haley S. Shanton, Michael T. Miller and wife Laura, and Grace A. Shanton; and one cherished great-grandson, Riley James.

She is preceded in death by her husband and parents; two brothers, James A. Orndorff and John L. Orndorff; her sister, Judith A. Orndorff; and her grandmother, Minnie Heltzel.

Vickie will be remembered for her unwavering strength and generous heart. Her legacy of service, kindness, and faith will live on in the lives of all who were blessed to know her.

The family will receive friends on Wednesday, October 8, 2025, at the Loy-Giffin Funeral and Crematory in Wardensville from 4-8 PM.

A funeral service will be held on Thursday, October 9, 2025, at the Wardensville United Methodist Church at 1 PM. Officiating will be Rev. Dennis Adams & Rev. Mike Funkhouser. A time of food and fellowship will immediately follow the service. The interment will be privately held in the Funk-Dyer Cemetery.

Memorials may be made in memory of Vickie to the East Hardy Athletic Booster, PO Box 268, Baker, WV 26801 or the Wardensville Vol. Rescue Squad, PO Box 456, Wardensville, WV 26851.
