The Yellow Jackets swarmed fast and stung the Charles Town Panthers 46-8 during last Wednesday’s game at Yellow Jacket Field.

Moorefield Middle School built a 40-nil advantage entering the final stanza and it all started with a 25-yard touchdown run and conversion by Keysean Washington on the opening series, the first of his three scores on the evening to lead the Yellow Jackets to victory.

“I am super proud of this team. Last week we didn’t take care of the ball very well and still need to work on it, because we had two fumbles today. We need to clean that up, so we can be right where we want to be. Keysean runs hard and Dakon both, they are very tough. Defense looked great. Our first team defense was on spot tonight,” Moorefield Middle coach Derek Flinn stated.

Charles Town reached the red zone before having a touchdown negated on an ineligible receiver, then an errant throw on fourth down caused a turnover on downs with under a minute left in the first quarter.

The Yellow Jackets wasted little time hitting pay dirt again as Washington rushed 47 yards for a touchdown on the initial play of the second quarter and Kaden Flinn added the conversion for a 16-0 lead just nine seconds into that frame.

The Moorefield Middle defense forced a punt with tackles by Washington, Jase Buckler, Jacob Dolan, Braxton Weese and Eli Kidwell.

Dakon Taylor garnered a 33-yard touchdown catch on the next series and Washington punched in the conversion for a 24-nil advantage with 5:20 left in the first half.

On the fourth play of the following Mustangs drive, Moorefield Middle’s Jacob McCausley recoded a sack.

Charles Town’s next play after a timeout resulted in an interception by the Yellow Jackets’ Hunter Wimer with a return to the Panthers 36-yard line.

Two touchdown runs down the Moorefield Middle sideline by Washington were called back due to penalties, then the third time on the same sequence resulted in an uncontested touchdown run and Washington’s third score with 36 seconds remaining in the half and the conversion by Noah Constable created a 32-0 lead.

Taylor added an eight yard touchdown run for the Yellow Jackets at the 3:16 mark of the third quarter with Wimer notching the conversion for a 40-nil score.

Charles Town got on the scoreboard preventing a shutout with eight points at the beginning of the fourth quarter.

Constable made a kickoff return for the Yellow Jackets near midfield, then Washington rushed for 35 yards entering the red zone.

Two plays later, Constable garnered the final touchdown as Moorefield Middle sealed a 46-8 win with five minutes to go as the defense didn’t permit another Panthers score.
