The inaugural QueenBees Classic was buzzing with excitement as five softball divisions swarmed the Hive in Moorefield and Petersburg last weekend.

There were 12 teams competing in five divisions overall and the host Queen Bees won two championships and three runner-up finishes in the tournament.

The Queen Bees 8U team defeated the Winchester Crusaders 17-1 for the first championship at Turk Cole Field in Moorefield.

The Hampshire Rippers 10U squad beat the Queen Bees for the title at Sager Field in Moorefield.

The Queen Bees 12U team won the championship over the WV Wild 13 14-6 at Sager Field in Moorefield.

The Pure Octane 14U team secured the championship over the Queen Bees 9-2 at Michael Brothers Memorial Field in Petersburg.

The Mountain Thunder 16U fended off a comeback to garner the crown against the Eastern National champion Queen Bees 15-5 at Michael Brothers Memorial Field in Petersburg.

“It was incredibly exciting to host our very first QueenBees Classic right here at home. We are so thankful for all the teams, coaches, players, and families who came out to support it. We had 12 teams total across our five divisions, and while we learned a lot along the way, we already have ideas to make next year even bigger and better. Our goal is at least four teams in each age group,” Queen Bees president Bridget Ours commented.

“Our younger teams had an amazing showing in Moorefield with 8U taking the championship, 10U earning runner-up, and 12U brining home champions as well. In Petersburg, our two older QueenBees teams both battled hard and finished as runner-up in their divisions. One thing we’d love to add next year is food vendors at Moorefield Town Park if we can’t offer concessions, to make it an even better experience for everyone. Overall, it was a great success, and we’re so happy we could be home and play.”

The QueenBees Classic created a special vibe in the Hive and looks to continue to grow the sport of softball for this region in years to come.
