Shayne Sisler struck out 14 batters as the starter led East Hardy Varsity Cougars past Pendleton County 15-1 on Wednesday at Pendleton County High School. Sisler surrendered one hit and one run over five and one-third innings while walking one.
Evan Hamilton collected three hits in four at bats in the win. Hamilton tripled in the first inning, doubled in the second inning, and singled in the third inning.
East Hardy Varsity Cougars got on the board in the top of the first inning after Dayton Dove singled to the left side of the infield, and Pendleton County committed an error, each scoring one run.
East Hardy Varsity Cougars scored five runs on three hits in the top of the third inning. Levi Price scored after tagging up, Jordan Teets lined out, scoring one run, Hamilton singled, scoring one run, and an error scored two runs.
East Hardy Varsity Cougars scored eight runs on five hits in the top of the sixth inning. Gage Dove singled, scoring one run, Mason Wilkins singled, scoring two runs, Dove drew a walk, scoring one run, an error scored one run, Sisler drew a walk, scoring one run, and Teets singled, scoring two runs.
Travis Owens started the game for Pendleton County. The starting pitcher gave up two hits and two runs (one earned) over one inning, striking out two and walking none. Teets appeared in relief for East Hardy Varsity Cougars.
East Hardy Varsity Cougars tallied 12 hits in the game. Dove, Teets, Wilkins, Sisler, and Dove each drove in two runs for East Hardy Varsity Cougars. Patrick Mills collected two hits for East Hardy Varsity Cougars in four at bats. East Hardy Varsity Cougars had a strong eye at the plate, piling up six walks for the game. Krystian Byram and Sisler led the team with two walks each. Sisler threw an immaculate inning in the second, striking out the side on nine pitches. Hamilton and Sisler each stole multiple bases for East Hardy Varsity Cougars. East Hardy Varsity Cougars ran wild on the base paths, amassing eight stolen bases for the game.
Cooper Smith went 1-for-2 at the plate to lead Pendleton County in hits. Pendleton County turned one double play in the game.
