Mary Susan “Sudie” (Crites) Simmons, age 78 of Rig, WV passed away on Tuesday, November 26, 2024 at her home.
Mary was born on August 1, 1946 in Moorefield, WV and was a daughter of the late Glenn Crites and Rebecca (Baldwin) Crites. In addition to her parents, Mary was preceded in death by one daughter, Sherry (Simmons) Hose; three sisters, Dottie Mongold and Paula Wolfe and an infant sister and two brothers, Donnie Crites and Norman Crites.
Mary is survived by her husband of 59 years, Richard Allen Simmons; one daughter, Sheila (Simmons) Wilkins of Durgon, WV; three grandchildren, Sierra Wratchford (Dusty) of Moorefield, WV, Jesse Hose III (Stacey) of Moorefield, WV and John R. Keplinger of Petersburg, WV; five great grandchildren, Cheyenne Hose, Aubrey Hose, Bayden Wratchford, Faith Wratchford and Hope Wratchford; two sisters, Cindy Shoemaker of Petersburg, WV and Lisa Crites (Roscoe) of Moorefield, WV; six brothers, Jerry Crites (Barbara) of Moorefield, WV, Stevie Crites (Tena) of Fisher, WV, Rodney Crites (Shawna) of Moorefield, WV, Randall Crites (Lana) of Rig, WV, Rex Crites (Elnita) of Rig, WV and Boyd Crites of Petersburg, WV and numerous nieces and nephews. Also surviving her fur baby, Lilly.
Mary was employed by Hesters Industries for several years and also employed by the West Virginia Department of Highways. In later years Mary was a caregiver for the Hardy County Committee on Aging. Mary enjoyed gardening, crocheting, embroidering and spending time with her family especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was a member of the Seventh Day Adventists Church of Moorefield, WV.
Mary’s family will receive family and friends Friday, November 29, 2024 from 4 – 6 PM at the Schaeffer Funeral Home in Petersburg. Funeral services will begin at 6:00 PM in the chapel of Schaeffer Funeral Home with Pastor Wade Armentrout officiating.
Graveside service will be Saturday, November 30, 2024 at 10:00 AM in Maple Hill Cemetery in Petersburg, WV.
