To the Editor:
It often feels like West Virginia only gets national attention when we are on the bottom of a good list or the top of a bad one.
But now something remarkable is happening in West Virginia. His name is Ace Parsi and he has won the Democratic nomination for West Virginia’s second Congressional District.
Ace is a first-generation Iranian immigrant. He knows firsthand the horrors that come with living under an authoritarian system, which is why he is such a fierce defender of our democracy. Ace knows that the very character of our nation is on the line in the upcoming election.
Ace cares deeply about West Virginia and its people. He believes that government should invest in families, not data centers; in small businesses, not corporations; in teachers, nurses, and other service providers, not CEOs.
Ace connects with everyone regardless of age, race, religion, or party affiliation. He often tells folks that he wants their vote, but even if they don’t vote for him, he will represent them in Congress. Since winning the nomination, Ace has visited every county in the 2nd district. He is listening to people and asking them what concerns them and what government can do to make their lives better.
Ace’s campaign is grassroots. There are no corporate sponsors, PACs, or $3,500-a-plate dinners. He values every donation. His office is the backseat of the volunteer’s car driving him to the next event. He opts for a PB&J in the car rather than a meal charged to an expense account. This election is a chance to look beyond political parties and family names. It is time to choose candidates based on their values, character, and how they treat the people they hope to represent.
