Halbert Junior “Junie” Wilson, age 83, of Moorefield, WV passed away peacefully on Sunday, October 4, 2026, leaving behind a lifetime of memories and a legacy that will continue through the generations who loved him.

Junie was born on January 24, 1943 in Fort Run, WV and was the son of the late Halbert Wilson and Dora Catherine Wratchford Wilson. A proud graduate of Moorefield High School, he spent his life working hard, serving his community, and above all, loving his family.

Junie was a man who understood the value of hard work and the importance of keeping your word. He worked as a real estate agent and auctioneer, but farming was always close to his heart. A lifelong farmer, he knew the land, respected the work it required, and took great pride in the life he built through his own hands. Farming was not simply a job — it was part of who he was and a tradition he carried with pride.

His faith and community were also important parts of his life. Junie was a member of Walnut Grove Church of the Brethren, the Freemason Lodge, and the Potomac Valley Men’s Choir. Through each of these organizations, he found friendship, fellowship, service, and a sense of belonging.

Junie was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Elaine Wilson, and multiple brothers and sisters. Though their absence left an emptiness in his life, the love they shared remained a part of him.

He leaves behind his son, Michael Wilson and wife Mary Mae, and his daughter, Monica Wilson Smith and husband Joe. To his children, he was not only a father, but a source of strength, guidance, stories, and memories that will be carried with them for the rest of their lives.

Junie was a proud grandfather to Tyler, Marcy, Gunner, and Dominick, children of Michael, and Logan and Claire, children of Monica. His grandchildren brought a special kind of happiness into his life, and he took great pride in watching them grow, build lives of their own, and become the people they are today.

His joy continued with his great-grandchildren, Karter, Karson, Ryder, Jase, and Eva, children of Tyler; Oaklyn, Easton, Willow and Alex, children of Marcy, and Piper, child of Dominick. They are a living continuation of the family he loved so deeply. Also surviving is one brother, Vance Wilson of Moorefield, WV and several nieces and nephews.

Those who knew Junie will remember his stories, his wisdom, his hardworking nature, his sense of humor, and the unmistakable presence he brought wherever he went. They will remember a man who could be counted on, a man who valued family and tradition, and a man whose life was woven into the land and community he called home.

His passing leaves a profound void for those who loved him. Junie leaves behind something that cannot be lost; the lessons he taught, the memories he created, the family he cherished, and the generations that carry a piece of him forward.

His hands may no longer work the fields, his voice may no longer be heard among friends and family, and his stories may no longer be told firsthand—but his legacy will continue every time his family gathers, every story they share, and every generation that remembers the man they called Dad, Pap, and Junie.

Rest peacefully, Junie. You gave a lifetime of love, hard work, faith, and memories. Your work here is done, but your legacy will live on in all of us who were blessed to know and love you.

Visitation will be Thursday, October 8, 2026 from 6–8 p.m. at Walnut Grove Church of the Brethren, 3597 WV-55, Moorefield, WV 26836. Funeral service will be on Friday, October 9, 2026 at 11:00 a.m. at the church with Pastor Steve Davis and Pastor Gary Shirk officiating. Burial will be in Walnut Grove Memorial Gardens, Moorefield, WV.

Arrangements by Schaeffer Funeral Home in Petersburg, WV. Online condolences: www.schaefferfuneralhome.com
