The Yellow Jackets hosted the annual Valley View Golf Invitational which featured a huge meal for all the golfers at the conclusion of the tournament.
It was a huge feast of chicken, brisket, mac and cheese, green beans, cupcakes, cookies and much more served by Moorefield Golf team mothers.
Midland Trail enjoyed the banquet after earning the Valley View Golf Invitational championship with a score of 302, followed by runner-up Lewis County with 313.
This year’s Valley View Invitational featured 15 teams hosted by Moorefield: Midland Trail, Lewis County, Hampshire 314, Petersburg 315, Strasburg (VA) 320, Elkins 334, Keyser 338, Martinsburg 343, Tucker County 345, Clarke County (VA) 352, Frankfort 354, Moorefield 359, Berkeley Springs 362, Jefferson 365 and Philip Barbour 405.
The overall low-medalist was Midland Trail’s Jacob Brown with a card of 73.
Brown was joined on the Valley View Invitational All-Tournament Team by teammates Landyn Cordle 74 and Camryn Thomas 76, Lewis County’s Dylan Hall 74, Strasburg’s Gavin Butler 75, Petersburg’s Ayden Gossard 75, Hampshire’s Landin Ludwick 76, Hampshire’s Peyton Vanmeter 76 and Petersburg’s Matthew Riggleman 76.
Moorefield Golf’s best round came from Kail Greenwalt with a card of 82 in 22nd place overall.
The Yellow Jackets wrapped up the scoring with Thomas Parisi in 46th place at 91, followed by Will Martin and Kody Biser tied for 54th place at 93 strokes and Tyler Roy capped off the invitational tied at 74th place with 109.
A couple golfers noted being challenged on the 5th and 16th holes.
The ponds swallowed a handful of golf balls throughout the course and the turtles were active in finding where they sank.
Bunkers ensnared some of the golfers, but they were able to find the green with sandy swings.
It was a clear and sunny day with majestic views surrounding the course to the enjoyment of visitors.
Midland Trail’s coach enjoyed the majestic views coming to Valley View for the first time and noted the amazing hospitality and how welcoming everyone was here in Moorefield. He remarked how his sophomores know a thing or two about winning championships (state title last year). Jake Brown is usually the low medalist at all the tournaments for the Patriots. He also mentioned there is no bad day in golf for his team as they play loose and have fun…don’t play clenched, it won’t win matches.
The Frankfort coach was happy to not finish in last place and loved the food served.
Moorefield coach Kevin Reed was thrilled to have so many teams at this invitational and noted there were a lot more teams wanting to come, especially for the food. We have a wonderful community helping us provide a top-notch tournament for the kids, from the homemade food to special prizes.
The Valley View Invitational has become a staple here and looks to continue with great success for years to come.
