Sharon Dale Helmick, 68, of Moorefield, passed away peacefully on Friday, June 5, 2026 at Winchester Medical Center with her family by her side.
Born March 23, 1958 in Romney, she was the daughter of the late James Russell Nickleson and Kathleen Susanne (Sulser) Nickleson. Besides her parents, Sharon is preceded in death by her brothers, Garland “Buzz” Nickleson and James “Jimmy” Nickleson; and by a sister, Llona Mowery.
Sharon is survived by her husband of 46 years, Dwayne A. Helmick of Moorefield; her son, Shane E. Nickleson (fiancé Carla Payne) of Augusta; her daughter, Alana L. Helmick (fiancé Daniel Folse) of Louisiana; her sister, Burma L. Ayers (husband Harold) of Romney; her grandchildren, Alexis, Brittany, and James; and her four great grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister-in-law, Vicky Nickleson of St. Marys, WV; a special cousin, Rose Myers of Moorefield; and special friend, Twila Mowery.
Sharon was a woman whose life was defined by kindness, service, and an unwavering commitment to caring for others. Throughout her career with the Department of Agriculture, she took great pride in her work and felt deeply fulfilled knowing she was making a positive difference.
Her compassion extended far beyond her profession. Sharon dedicated much of her time to caring for elderly individuals, offering comfort, companionship, and support to those in need. She had a nurturing spirit and found joy in taking care of others in every aspect of her life.
Sharon loved to cook and bake, often expressing her love through the meals and treats she shared with family and friends. She carried a positive attitude through life’s challenges and was known for her ability to lift the spirits of those around her.
Throughout her life, Sharon poured the very best parts of herself into everyone she met. Her generosity, kindness, and selfless love left a lasting impact on countless lives. She will be deeply missed and forever cherished by her husband, family, and all who were blessed to know her.
Friends and family will be received on Saturday, June 13, 2026 from 1:00 PM till 4:00 PM at Shaffer Funeral Home in Romney. Funeral services will immediately follow at 4:00 PM with Pastor Jackie Vermilyen officiating. Interment will be private.
