Moorefield Tennis concluded the regular season in Petersburg last Monday.
The Yellow Jackets Boys team lost for the first time in at least six years to the Vikings 4-3, then rebounded to finish the season with a 6-1 victory.
Moorefield Tennis played a doubleheader against Notre Dame and Petersburg the previous weekend with match play extending through 1:00 a.m. The lights turned off at the park at that time and both teams agreed to wrap up that match on Monday.
Moorefield Boys Tennis defeated Notre Dame 5-2 with singles match victories by No 2 Brycen Alley 8-nil, No 3 Marcel Jager 8-nil, and No. 4 Weston Eye 8-1.
Yellow Jackets top seed Preston Cosner lost a tiebreaker to Notre Dame’s Jake Quinlan 9-8 (7-3).
Moorefield Boys Tennis second and third seed doubles won 8-nil, while No. 1 seed lost 8-6 against the Irish.
Having the interruption and suspended match played a part in the Yellow Jackets falling to Petersburg on the road on Monday.
Petersburg Boys Tennis No. 1 singles Jesse Ockerman edged Moorefield’s Preston Cosner 8-4.
Alley earned an 8-4 win over the Vikings Jaxson Kile in the No. 2 singles match.
Moorefield Boys No. 3 singles Marcel Jager won 8-3 over Zack Carlon.
Petersburg’s Ben Kuhn secured an 802 win in the No. 4 singles match over Moorefield’s Weston Eye.
Moorefield Boys Tennis No. 1 Doubles Cosner and Jed Blizzard lost 8-5, but had fun playing with jumping and laughter throughout the match.
Alley and Eye lost 804 in the second seed doubles match.
Jager and David Stonestreet picked up a forfeit win for the Yellow Jackets in the hired seed doubles match.
The girls’ scores weren’t available as of press time.
Moorefield Tennis returned to form with the final match leading into the region tournament which was held at Robert C. Byrd High School and Lincoln High School.
