I was chastised by a reader in last week’s Letters to the Editor for not promoting civil discourse and for not entering into a debate over the details of tariffs and U.S. trade policy. My letter published several weeks ago defended President Trump’s tariff actions and countered the claim of another reader that the president acts in an authoritarian manner, that he fashions himself a “king”.
I am not an expert on tariffs and trade policy so to get into a debate on that topic here wouldn’t be appropriate (and I believe many readers would find it quite boring). Rather, I trust the president and the team he has around him to do what’s right for our economy, for our defense, and for the good of the American people, whether they be Democrats, Republicans or Independents. President Trump has shown over and over again that this is his intent, for those willing to be reasonable and understand his actions. As I said earlier, watch the growth and prosperity our country enjoys once the problem of the evil mullahs in Iran is resolved, something that 7 previous presidents lacked the will and courage to address.
Yes, I and many others have little patience remaining for those left of center politically, who ignore the weaponization of our government inflicted by the Obama and Biden administrations and who cast a blind eye to efforts to bring down our elected president, Donald J. Trump, something that began over 10 years ago when he first declared his candidacy. We bristle at the automatic attacks on the president over everything he says and does. Recent news on his impeachment in his first term over the “Ukrainian phone call” that John Solomon with justthenews.com has disclosed recently stands as yet another example of Democrats’ immoral and likely illegal efforts to undeservedly damage this man.
The bottom line is that I, and I believe a majority of Americans (and likely the majority of readers of the Moorefield Examiner), have zero tolerance for the reflexive anti-Trump sentiment coming from Democrats and their mainstream media allies. Talk about a lack of civil discourse.
