Grace Simmons drove in four runs on three hits to lead Moorefield Varsity Lady Jackets past Hampshire Varsity Trojans 17-1 on Wednesday at 157 Trojan Way. Grace Simmons singled in the second scoring two, doubled in the first scoring one, and singled in the first scoring one.
Moorefield Varsity Lady Jackets scored 10 runs in the second inning on the way to victory. Caroline Auville singled, scoring one run, Anniston Kite drew a walk, scoring one run, Emmy Crites singled, scoring one run, Grace Simmons singled, scoring two runs, Kerigan Bergdall doubled, scoring two runs, Caroline Auville doubled, scoring two runs, and Ella Poling singled, scoring one run.
Moorefield Varsity Lady Jackets got on the board in the top of the first inning after Grace Simmons doubled down the left field line, Brenna See doubled down the left field line, Kerigan Bergdall doubled to center field, Caroline Auville grounded out, Raleigh Kuykendall singled to right field, Emmy Crites doubled down the left field line, and Grace Simmons singled to center field, each scoring one run.
Anniston Kite earned the win for Moorefield Varsity Lady Jackets. The southpaw surrendered one hit and zero runs over two innings, striking out five and walking two. Erica Call took the loss for Hampshire Varsity Trojans. The pitcher went three innings, allowing 17 runs (eight earned) on 15 hits, striking out two and walking three. Makayla Myers appeared in relief for Moorefield Varsity Lady Jackets.
Moorefield Varsity Lady Jackets amassed 15 hits in the game. Emmy Crites and Grace Simmons were a force together in the lineup, as they each collected three hits for Moorefield Varsity Lady Jackets while hitting back-to-back.
