Petersburg Varsity Lady Vikings scored 10 runs in the first inning, which helped them defeat Moorefield Varsity Lady Jackets 14-2 on Thursday at 861 Petersburg Gap Hwy.
Moorefield Varsity Lady Jackets got on the board in the first inning after Brenna See grounded out, scoring one run.
Petersburg Varsity Lady Vikings flipped the game on its head in the bottom of the first, scoring 10 runs on five hits to take the lead, 10-1. The biggest blow in the inning was a single by Karlee DiBenedetto that drove in two.
Petersburg Varsity Lady Vikings added to their early lead in the bottom of the third inning when an error scored one run, Ella Chew grounded out, scoring one run, and Karlee DiBenedetto doubled, scoring two runs.
Moorefield Varsity Lady Jackets scored one run in the top of the fourth on a solo home run to center field by Kerigan Bergdall.
Kinsley Crites earned the win for Petersburg Varsity Lady Vikings. The starting pitcher allowed four hits and two runs over five innings, striking out two and walking none. Annie Barr took the loss for Moorefield Varsity Lady Jackets. The starting pitcher went four innings, surrendering 14 runs (four earned) on 10 hits, striking out three and walking six.
Kiersten Rinker, Sara Baldwin, Grace Simmons, and Kerigan Bergdall each collected one hit for Moorefield Varsity Lady Jackets. Kerigan Bergdall and Brenna See each drove in one run for Moorefield Varsity Lady Jackets.
Petersburg Varsity Lady Vikings tallied 10 hits in the game. Karlee DiBenedetto led Petersburg Varsity Lady Vikings with four runs batted in from the number eight spot in the lineup. The right fielder went 2-for-3 on the day. Abi Nettles, Miley Tingler, Shyane Tawney, and Karlee DiBenedetto each collected two hits for Petersburg Varsity Lady Vikings. Ella Markwell paced Petersburg Varsity Lady Vikings with two walks. Overall, the team had patience at the plate, collecting six walks for the game. Shyane Tawney stole two bases. Petersburg Varsity Lady Vikings were sure-handed in the field and didn’t commit a single error. Shyane Tawney had the most chances in the field with eight.
Moorefield Varsity Lady Jackets play at home on Monday against Berkeley Springs in their next game.
