Petersburg Varsity Lady Vikings scored nine runs in the fourth inning, which helped them defeat Moorefield Varsity Lady Jackets 17-1 on Saturday at 226 Spring Ave.
Moorefield Varsity Lady Jackets opened the scoring in the first after Annie Barr singled, scoring one run.
Petersburg Varsity Lady Vikings jumped back into the lead in the bottom of the first inning after Moorefield Varsity Lady Jackets committed an error, Moorefield Varsity Lady Jackets committed an error, and Karlee DiBenedetto walked, each scoring one run.
A home run to left field by Abi Nettles, and a single by Ella Markwell helped Petersburg Varsity Lady Vikings extend their early lead in the second.
Petersburg Varsity Lady Vikings scored two runs in the bottom of the third on a home run to center field by Miley Tingler.
Petersburg Varsity Lady Vikings scored nine runs on four hits in the bottom of the fourth inning. Kinsley Crites earned the win for Petersburg Varsity Lady Vikings. The righty allowed two hits and one run over four innings, striking out two and walking none. Annie Barr took the loss for Moorefield Varsity Lady Jackets. The hurler went one inning, surrendering five runs (one earned) on two hits, striking out one and walking two.
Annie Barr and Grace Simmons each collected one hit for Moorefield Varsity Lady Jackets. Annie Barr led Moorefield Varsity Lady Jackets with one run batted in. The pitcher went 1-for-2 on the day.
Petersburg Varsity Lady Vikings piled up 10 hits in the game. Ella Markwell, Abi Nettles, and Shyane Tawney each collected two hits for Petersburg Varsity Lady Vikings. Abi Nettles and Cheynenne Sites each drove in four runs for Petersburg Varsity Lady Vikings. Ella Chew paced Petersburg Varsity Lady Vikings with two walks. Overall, the team had patience at the plate, collecting five walks for the game. Shyane Tawney stole two bases. Petersburg Varsity Lady Vikings were sure-handed in the field and didn’t commit a single error. Miley Tingler had the most chances in the field with four.
