Despite trailing by as many as four runs, Moorefield Varsity YellowJackets rallied to top Strasburg Varsity Rams 7-4 on Tuesday.
Strasburg Varsity Rams got on the board in the second inning after Nate Turner grounded out, scoring one run.
An error, and a fielder’s choice by Nate Turner helped Strasburg Varsity Rams extend their early lead in the third.
Moorefield Varsity YellowJackets flipped the game on its head in the top of the fifth, scoring five runs on four hits to take the lead, 6-4. The biggest blow in the inning was a triple by Caleb Flinn that drove in three.
Blake Snyder stepped on the bump first for Moorefield Varsity YellowJackets. The pitcher gave up eight hits and four runs (three earned) over five and one-third innings, striking out none and walking one. Gage Gutierrez began the game for Strasburg Varsity Rams. The starting pitcher surrendered four hits and one run (zero earned) over four innings, striking out three and walking two. Kail Greenwalt pitched one and two-thirds innings of no-run ball for Moorefield Varsity YellowJackets in relief. The hurler gave up zero hits, striking out one and walking none.
Moorefield Varsity YellowJackets amassed 11 hits in the game. Caleb Flinn led Moorefield Varsity YellowJackets with three runs batted in from the number eight spot in the lineup. The outfielder went 2-for-4 on the day. Caleb Flinn, Zakk Keplinger, and Edison Metheny each collected two hits for Moorefield Varsity YellowJackets.
Ryan Reynolds and Nate Turner each drove in two runs for Strasburg Varsity Rams. Jacob Britton led Strasburg Varsity Rams with two hits in four at bats.
Moorefield Varsity YellowJackets welcome Elkins Varsity Tiger on Saturday for their next game.
