Moorefield Varsity Lady Jackets couldn’t keep up with Petersburg Varsity Lady Vikings and fell 15-3 on Thursday at 226 Spring Ave.
Petersburg Varsity Lady Vikings opened the scoring in the first after Ella Chew homered to left field, scoring three runs.
Petersburg Varsity Lady Vikings added to their early lead in the top of the third inning after Ella Markwell singled to center field, Ella Chew singled, Lacey Moyers grounded out, and Moorefield Varsity Lady Jackets committed an error, each scoring one run.
Petersburg Varsity Lady Vikings scored six runs on two hits in the top of the fourth inning. An error scored one run, Miley Tingler doubled, scoring one run, Ella Markwell singled, scoring one run, Anniston Kite induced Lacey Moyers to hit into a fielder’s choice, but one run scored, and an error scored two runs.
Petersburg Varsity Lady Vikings scored two runs in the top of the fifth on a home run to left field by Ella Markwell.
Gracie Carpenter earned the win for Petersburg Varsity Lady Vikings. The starting pitcher gave up nine hits and three runs (one earned) over five innings, striking out one and walking none. Annie Barr took the loss for Moorefield Varsity Lady Jackets. The right-handed pitcher went three innings, giving up seven runs on seven hits, striking out one and walking one.
Emmy Crites and Grace Simmons were a force together in the lineup, as they each collected two hits for Moorefield Varsity Lady Jackets while hitting back-to-back. Sara Baldwin, the number seven hitter for Moorefield Varsity Lady Jackets, led the way with two runs batted in. The right-handed hitter went 1-for-2 on the day.
Petersburg Varsity Lady Vikings piled up 12 hits in the game. Ella Markwell and Ella Chew were a one-two punch in the lineup, as each drove in four runs for Petersburg Varsity Lady Vikings. Abi Nettles and Miley Tingler each collected multiple hits for Petersburg Varsity Lady Vikings. Petersburg Varsity Lady Vikings ran wild on the base paths, accumulating four stolen bases for the game. Petersburg Varsity Lady Vikings turned one double play in the game.
Moorefield Varsity Lady Jackets will travel to Mountain Ridge for their next game on Monday.
