By Eric Miller, Ministry leader
May 16, 2026, could change life for teens in Moorefield, WV, forever. That will be the date when Big Blue Moorefield opens. The center will open to teens on that date at the Family Support Center. There will be a parent meeting on May 1, 2026. The Big Blue Moorefield will meet on Fridays from 5 pm-7 pm, after the 16th .
This exciting step comes at a time when we have also seen consistent growth from Big Blue Wardensville for some time. We have seen the number of teens increase over the past year from 15-20 per night to 22-27 per night. In 2025, we had over 105 different teens come through our door in Wardensville. Big Blue’s efforts have not gone unnoticed by the community, as we have received a wider range of help, both financial and physical. The past year saw us open 51 of 52 Saturday nights and open for Dinner and Discipleship on Sunday nights, along with special events. The Core Team is the adult volunteer leadership behind Big Blue being open. We are a group of seven main volunteers who execute and conduct all activities at Big Blue. The mission guiding this group is to introduce God to every teenager.
Being a Core Team member is not for the faint of heart because it is not just a social club. The calling to be a Core Team member is one that will result in a deeply changing experience. The group that is our Core Team in Wardensville is my best friends. We laugh, we cry, we share, and we love together. The Core Team is not just meeting and planning; you will share blood, sweat, and tears with these people. We have spent countless hours together ensuring that we are following what we believe is God’s plan for Big Blue. We meet twice a month to plan the month’s activities; we meet twice a year for an entire Saturday to plan the next six months and to solve bigger issues. We have constant communication through a text message group, in which we often share our personal struggles or joys, and often ask for prayer. In no way would I change anything about it. This group is a great group put together to serve together by God. As much as I felt called to this mission and to Big Blue by God, I can not leave because of the group of people I now call my family, whom I met there.
My reason for telling you this is not just to inform you, but it is a call for action. Back in January, Big Blue went on the road and brought our group to the Moorefield area. The Saturday night we came over, we partnered with Moorefield Church of God. The goal of the event was to bring Moorefield teens together with our existing group. After this event, we had people in the Moorefield area show interest in this being a more permanent thing than these visits. The Family Support Center began the conversation about bringing Big Blue to Moorefield. The Big Blue Board of Directors met in February and talked this over and decided to move forward with this effort. Two members of the board, DJ Taylor and Wade Armentrout, set up a meeting with the Family Support Center, and at this meeting, Big Blue signed a letter of intent to branch out into Moorefield.
This move will not come unless we can gather a Core Team for Moorefield. This is the first step in making this happen. A group of 6 to 10 committed individuals will form the Core Team, each devoted to sharing the Gospel with teenagers. The Core Team members must pass a background check and child safety course. After forming the Core Team, this group will organize and execute the weekly events. If you would like to see the teens of Moorefield have a safe place to hang out without fear of drugs or other negative influences, we would love to have you.
Big Blue is and will continue to be a pillar of this community, and the growth of new communities will come with challenges. Nonetheless, Big Blue has been operating in Wardensville for nearly six years and has discovered effective approaches. This growth will also come with more financial and other needs, so as we start this journey, please be in prayer for the ones called to this ministry.
