Katharine Marie Good Leatherman, 97, of Wardensville, WV went to be with her Lord & Savior early Sunday morning, January 25, 2026 at her residence surrounded with so much Love from so many.
She was born in Intermont, WV to Leslie Good and Francis Shaffenaker Good on April 9, 1928.
She was the devoted wife to her “one true love”, Harlan Arnold Leatherman , to whom she married on May 3, 1952 and preceded her in death in 2007.
Katharine lived a quiet but adventurous life always up for a challenge. She attended Strayer College and Shepherd College. Throughout the years she worked various jobs to help Harlan support their family. Some of those were Capon Valley Bank, also working for Drs. Mathias and Rawlings, University of WV at the State Farm location, Teaching 5th grade in Winchester, VA, Substitute Bus Driving for Hardy County, Stitching Unlimited in Strasburg, VA, Yellow Springs Mill, Kac-ka-pon Restaurant, and the Apple Orchards in High View. She also volunteered with the Wardensville Rescue Squad and was always active with her beloved Lutheran Church. Katharine and Harlan worked long days together on “Red Bud Farm” with much pride that they owned and operated together since 1953; and they raised two sons on. In her spare time she loved to cook, sew, crochet, knit, (which she did an amazing job at) and garden. She enjoyed family trips (especially the beach).
Katharine is survived by two Sons, Jim (Cindi) of Martinsburg, WV, Daniel (Melody) of Wardensville, WV, four Grandchildren (of which several referred to her as “Grandma down at the House”), Jamie (Rachel), Martinsburg, WV, Kevin (Katherine), Moorefield, WV, Karen(Aaron), Wardensville, WV, Kaleb (Rachel), Bridgeport, WV, five Great-Grandchildren, Asher, Jase, Millie, Eli and Brooks.
A very special thank you to Katharine’s Caregiver, Sara Riggleman. Sara not only was Katharine’s caregiver for 3 years, but also a very dear friend. Sara’s dedication, compassion, patience and trained skills were invaluable. The two of them looked at life as an adventure and took weekly local trips in order to live life to the fullest . . . laughing all the way. Also a sincere thank you to the Hospice Team for this region.
Services will be conducted Friday, January, 30, 2026 at Loy-Giffin Funeral Home, Wardensville, WV with Viewing at 10:00 a.m. and Celebration of Life at 11:00 a.m. Pastors Douglas Knupp, Michael Funkhouser and Jamie Leatherman will officiate the services.
