Girls wrestling in the Mountain State is growing fast and a plethora of teams ventured through the elevations to compete at the Jefferson Lady Cougars Classic on Saturday.
The Golden Tornado took the tournament by storm whirling to win the championship with 93 points which included a title for Morgan Jones.
The Yellow Jackets swarmed into Shenandoah Junction earning the runner-up trophy with 72 points, the first ever tournament hardware for the girls team led by champion Kailynn Penkov.
Moorefield Girls Wrestling collected silver medals thrice for LeeAnne Coon, Jaelee Lender and Grace Simmons.
Annie Barr added a bronze medal for the Yellow Jackets.
East Hardy Girls Wrestling finished in third place overall with 67 points at the Jefferson Lady Cougars Classic bolstered by Jaedyn Funk’s championship title.
East Hardy garnered a pair of silver medals for Madilyn Funk and Morganne Miller.
The Cougars rounded out the medal count with two bronze medalists, Chloe D’Amico and Emma Posey.
It was a stellar day for the Potomac Valley Conference, especially our Hardy County girls wrestling teams competing to a plethora of success at the annual Jefferson Lady Cougars Classic.
