
The Trojans and Wildcats eradicated the Yellow Jackets from the Hive as Hampshire Volleyball secured the overall tri-match victories in Moorefield.
Pendleton County opened the tri-match series ousting Moorefield by the scores of 25-14 and 25-21.
The Wildcats fell to Hampshire in the second match by the scores of 25-17 and 25-16.
Hampshire kept the momentum going to ground the Yellow Jackets 25-16 and 25-8 to seal the overall win.
It was a stellar serving start for the Yellow Jackets against Pendleton County as Liddy Keplinger landed an ace.
The Wildcats evened the match with a block by Kinsley Price.
Price slammed the ball for the lead, then a block by Moorefield’s Raleigh Kuykendall was saved initially by Breena Bowers before Kuykendall returned the ensuing volley for a spike.
The match would be knotted up five more times reaching 10-all, then the Wildcats gained separation.
There was a plethora of miscues on serves and volleys approaching that final tie.
However, Moorefield’s Lexi Vanmeter recorded two aces and Kuykendall collected a kill to put Moorefield ahead briefly 10-9.
Pendleton County found some rhythm scoring seven consecutive points to build a 16-10 advantage as Price and Carolyn Varner created blocks along the way and Price added two kills, plus Alyssa Bennett served an ace.
The Yellow Jackets got a point off a service error and Brenna See hammered the ball to make it 17-12.
A serve sailed awry, then Pendleton County’s Bowers delivered an ace and Brynlynn Waggy pushed over a point.
Moorefield countered with a spike by Kuykendall and a dink by Keplinger couldn’t be corralled for a 20-14 score.
The Wildcats closed the first set garnering five straight points including two kills by Waggy and a serve by Callie Judy was returned out of bounds for the last marker.
Pendleton County began the second set against the Yellow Jackets with a 5-1 lead which included aces from Bennett and Chesnee Colaw.
Moorefield rallied as Kuykendall blocked volleys twice, Aubrey Kidwell had a non-returnable serve due to a collision and an attack by See was returned out to tie the set at 5-all.
Pendleton County responded to take a 9-6 lead, but the Yellow Jackets would swarm back stinging for a 10-9 edge on kills by Keplinger and Vanmeter.
Moorefield’s Emmy Crites, Annie Barr and Kidwell made digs during that stretch.
The set would be tied twice more before the Wildcats pounced for a 19-14 lead on attacks by Price and Colbie Wimer.
Moorefield refused to back down as #Vanmeter got into a groove at the net and See delivered two aces cutting the deficit to 20-19.
A couple of errors and an ace by Wimer helped the Wildcats go up 23-19.
Moorefield collected two more points on service errors, but Pendleton County would close the match on a spike by Price, 25-21.
The Trojans caged the Wildcats, then shredded the Yellow Jackets in two sets, 25-16 and 25-8.
Hampshire had pink hues on the uniforms to recognize October Breast Cancer Awareness.
The Yellow Jackets honored their volleyball alumni attending the match prior to the second game.
Moorefield opened the first set against Hampshire with a spike by Kuykendall, then the Trojans answered with a kill by Hisely Keiter.
Moorefield’s Keplinger made a sliding save crashing into the bench during a serve and See tapped the ball over.
An ace by Kidwell put the Yellow Jackets up 3-1.
Hampshire would rally to tie the set at 5-all on attacks by Keiter and a block by Olivia Nichols.
The set would be tied six more times, then the Trojans marched out to a 20-14 advantage with aces by Keiter and Isabella Mathias.
Moorefield’s Vanmeter and Kidwell notched digs during that run, but the Trojans kept attacking.
The Yellow Jackets created points on kills from Kuykendall and Annie Barr.
Hampshire finished the first set with a block by Lani Stewart, 25-16.
Hampshire developed a 10-3 lead early in the second set with kills by Stewart and Summer Giffin, plus an ace from Keiter and block by Mathias.
Errors were detrimental during the set for the Yellow Jackets, but a couple blocks by See provided highlights in the 25-8 loss.
