Sometimes an event strips away the rhetoric, the theory, and the politics of an issue and strips all away but the truth of a matter.
A horrifying event took place at the end of August halfway around the world that expressed the reality of the impact of Western nations not taking seriously the issue of illegal immigrants behaving not just badly, but in frightening fashion. It also raised issues of feminism, the right to self-defense, and the emergence of a British legal system that fails their native people and inexplicably favors immigrant criminals in every way.
The world now knows the name of Mayah Sommers because of an act of heroism that should never have been necessary.
It does not matter why two male illegal immigrants opted to follow two adolescent Scottish girls, filming and harassing them, then baiting the police into arresting one. The girls claim that the illegals approached them with bad intentions and later coverage indicated that they had endured harassment previously. While the British government pretends it has no problem, minor girls continue to suffer attack and sexual assault at the hands of people who should be nowhere near the British Isles.
Sommers did not stop to think of the political implications of her actions when she brandished a knife and axe, warning the illegals to stay away. As Sommers orders the men to leave her alone, one can hear the illegal in the video taunting the frightened and enraged young girl “show the knife, show the knife!”
With an expression that would have made William Wallace proud, she held up a small hatchet and long knife, acting on her natural a priori God-given right to protect herself and her kin. The eyes of this young lady – wearing a T shirt with a Nike logo and jeans with a hole ripped in the knees and looking like she could have walked out of any middle school in West Virginia – burned with rage as she held up the weapons, her expression showing a full determination to use them if the two illegal males wished to push the matter further.
The malefactor with the camera understood that he was entrapping her into what has become a crime in Britain for a person of any age, carrying weapons of self-defense. Citizens cannot even carry non-lethal protection, such as pepper spray. Britain, whose national mythology celebrates Saint George lancing a dragon, has also outlawed long knives and even confiscated a large number of them.
When the police came, they paid little attention to the illegals who felt compelled to harass the girls. Instead they arrested Sommers herself for an action that almost anywhere in the United States would be considered heroic and also her own natural right.
Left wingers jumped into action online to condemn the girl for protecting herself from what at worst would have been a terrifying attack and at best was the unwanted attention of slimy and cowardly males who had no fear of law enforcement, the justice system, or apparently others who happened to be passing by on the street.
Statistics tell a story here. In 2024, 73,000 rape cases were brought to the British justice system in a population of 68.5 million and that number holding steady since 2021. That represented a significant climb over the span of 15 years. The United States, by comparison had 333 million people in 2022 and 127,000 rape cases, with that number a steep decline from previous years.
You Tube scrubbed the actual video posted by the illegals, leaving only a number of tribute videos to Sommers’ heroism. Many have “annointed” her Mayah Queen of Scots after the 16th century leader in that nation executed by Queen Elizabeth I for defying the English ruler.
Sommers’ arrest came after months of rising tensions between the left-wing Labour government and the people of the nation, primarily in the English section. Government authorities ordering citizens to not hoist the flags of England and Great Britain out of fear of offending immigrants have mainly inspired the near daily hanging of thousands of those flags in public spaces in protest.
On September 13, a massive rally against the government that focuses on these problems will take place in central London. Recent events, however, unrelated to the Sommers case, have sparked both non violent and violent reactions all over Great Britain.
Britain has also in all but name implemented a “two-tier justice system” that weighs quite heavily on native Britons while punishing lightly, or not at all, immigrants for the same crimes. A housewife named Lucy Connolly was jailed for hate speech because she criticized the government’s immigration policies in forceful terms. Upon her release, many have pushed Connolly to run for Parliament.
Many, maybe most British, at this point see a government that took away their ancient right to keep and bear arms (guns were mostly outlawed long ago) then imported, or refused to deport, mass numbers of people, too many of whom prey on the now vulnerable British people.
Some have pointed out that Britain decades ago signed treaties to not deport immigrants in almost any scenario, but as British political philosophy teaches, the primary responsibilities of government lay in protecting life and property, not upholding unwisely agreed to international agreements. Pieces of paper need not stand in the way of a nation protecting its citizens.
For the sake of immigrants’ feelings, British elites turned their back on centuries of rule of law and the ideals of freedom of speech. They even turned their backs on the safety and security of their own citizens. Meanwhile the same Labour government has shown itself incompetent across the board on day to day issues .
British television anchor Jacob Rees-Mogg captured the rising rage across Britain, posting a bit of Rudyard Kipling poetry. Kipling, one of the best artists of human nature since William Shakespeare, once wrote in verse:
“The Saxon is not like us Normans. His manners are not so polite.
But he never means anything serious till he talks about justice and right.
When he stands like an ox in the furrow – with his sullen eyes set on your own,
And grumbles ‘this isn’t fair dealing’ my son, leave the Saxon alone.”
In the context of English history, the reference to Normans is one of invaders who have seized control of law and government. That toward the Saxons means the people who have to live under their conquest. The Normans are, in Rees-Mogg’s metaphor, the immigrants and their elite enablers, the Saxons are the common people groaning under the burdens laid on them.
Reform UK has moved past the established Labour and Conservative parties in some polls and may very well win the next election outright or at least have to form a coalition government with the Conservative Party, which has recently parroted many Reform UK ideals in a less aggressive manner.
Another issue converging with that of Britain’s failed immigration policy is feminism. In what realm should young women have to risk sexual assault just walking around their home town in broad daylight with no means of protection, usually not even from police? Why are the feelings of immigrants more important than their sovereignty over their bodies, sovereignty including the right of self-defense?
Where are the outspoken feminists on this issue?
It must be repeated over and over that legal immigration, the kind that brings in law-abiding and grateful families, often also devoutly religious, willing to work hard for opportunity and a better life, that kind of immigration builds communities. It creates new businesses, expanded markets, and rising productivity.
Illegal immigration, or allowing criminals to enter and settle in a nation via legal process, however, undermines communities. It creates new threats to life and property, expands fear and trepidation, and results in rising crime.
What has happened to Britain is what the political Marxist Left, not traditional patriotic American liberals who form the true silent majority of the Democratic Party, wants to bring to the United States. They wish to see the citizens of this nation just as helpless and vulnerable in the exact same ways.
And it is incumbent upon Americans to prevent that from happening.
