Big First Inning Leads Musselman Varsity Applemen Past Moorefield Varsity Yellowjackets

Musselman Varsity Applemen scored 12 runs in the first inning, which helped them defeat Moorefield Varsity Yellowjackets 15-2 on Wednesday.

Musselman Varsity Applemen got on the board in the top of the first inning after Wyatt McClintock doubled, scoring two runs, Jacob Pereschuk doubled, scoring one run, Will Polvinale singled, scoring two runs, Ryder Ganse singled, scoring two runs, Taryn Boyles singled, scoring two runs, Tannor Sharp singled, scoring one run, Will Polvinale drew a walk, scoring one run, and Kamdyn Woolum singled, scoring one run.

A single by Wyatt McClintock extended the Musselman Varsity Applemen lead to 14-0 in the top of the second inning.

Musselman Varsity Applemen added one run in the third after Austin Zacharias grounded out.

Will Polvinale earned the win for Musselman Varsity Applemen. The pitcher surrendered two hits and two runs over five innings, striking out five and walking six. Blake Snyder pitched four innings in relief for Moorefield Varsity Yellowjackets. The pitcher allowed two hits and three runs (one earned) while, striking out two and walking none. Cyrus Kump took the loss for Moorefield Varsity Yellowjackets. The hurler went one inning, surrendering 12 runs on nine hits, striking out two and walking five.

Oliver Crites and Trevor Baldwin each collected one hit for Moorefield Varsity Yellowjackets. Kail Greenwalt and Oliver Crites were tough to handle back-to-back in the lineup, as each drove in one run for Moorefield Varsity Yellowjackets. Caleb Flinn led Moorefield Varsity Yellowjackets with two walks. Overall, the team had a strong eye at the plate, tallying six walks for the game. Moorefield Varsity Yellowjackets turned one double play in the game.

Musselman Varsity Applemen tallied 11 hits in the game. Wyatt McClintock provided pop in the middle of the lineup, and led Musselman Varsity Applemen with four runs batted in. The left-handed hitter went 2-for-4 on the day. Will Polvinale, Wyatt McClintock, and Ryder Ganse each collected two hits for Musselman Varsity Applemen. Ryder Ganse stole two bases.

Next up for Moorefield Varsity Yellowjackets is a game against Tygarts Valley on Friday.
