Letter to the Editor

Letter to the Editor,

I’m curious.  Over the past month, I have been noticing different trends in political candidate signs on the west and east sides of the county.  During errands in Moorefield, I would estimate that the Democratic and Republican candidates had about a 1:1 ratio of signs along roads, near homes, and at major intersections.  But in Baker, Wardensville, and on 259 to the state line below Mathias, I would put that at about 3:1, favoring Democrats.

However, on Tuesday, when I drove to Wardensville, I saw no Democratic signs left (other than the large ones secured with zip-ties to T-Posts).  When I drove to Harrisonburg on Friday, only six Democratic signs were left on 259 from Baker to the state line.  None of the Republican signs were removed.  I’m curious.

I might consider that the WV Dept of Transportation removed them for mowing, but the state of the grass along the road did not suggest mowing had been done.  And, that does not explain why only the Democratic signs were gone. I’m curious.

My curiosity will just have to wait for someone to come forward with an explanation.  Then, we can give them the grace that the editorial recommended this week (11/27/24 edition).  I’m forgiving.

Oscar Larson
