Joseph William Crites, age 71 of Moorefield, W.Va., passed away on Friday, September 19, 2014 at Grant Memorial Hospital in Petersburg, W.Va..
He was born on November 1, 1942 in Durgon, W.Va., and was the son of the late William and Ruth V. (Borror) Crites. On November 27, 1961 he married Audrey Kimble Crites, who survives in Moorefield. Mr. Crites had worked for the Petersburg Tannery, had driven a truck for Barlow’s Trucking, and was last employed by Wampler Feed Mill. He was a former member of the Moorefield Honor Guard and he attended Rig Assembly of God. Joseph was a US Army Veteran and he enjoyed hunting, fishing, and spending time with his family.
In addition to his wife, Mr. Crites is survived by two sons, Charles “Jody” Crites and wife Brenda and John Crites and wife Tina, all of Moorefield, W.Va.; seven sisters, Rebecca Whetzel of Moorefield, Laura Leatherman of Petersburg, W.Va.,Virginia Nidiffer of Hartville, Ohio, Ann Alt of Martinsburg, W.Va., Shirley Miller of Bealeton, Va., Sharon Borror of Front Royal, Va. and Nancy Gimenez of Summersville, S.C.; five brothers, Paul and David Crites, both of Durgon, Stanley Crites of Crimora, Va., Donald and Ronald Crites, both of Durgon; six grandchildren; and seven great- grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Linda Crites.
Funeral services were held on Monday, September 22, 2014 in the Basagic Funeral Home chapel, with Pastor Brad Taylor officiating. Interment was in the Kimble Family Cemetery in Moorefield, with military graveside services conducted by the Petersburg VFW Honor Guard.
