The Yellow Jackettes swarmed the Hive with aces during a straight set match victory over Paw Paw last Thursday: 25-8, 25-7, 25-11.
In the starting lineup for Moorefield was Sydney Hardy, Lindsey Rinker, Rebekah Markwood, Hanna Carlson, Kylie Crites and Alyssa Vetter.
Markwood made the initial pass in the first set off Paw Paw Megan Brown’s serve to Rinker, who connected with Hardy for a kill.
Rinker’s serve was returned by Laken Day and fielded by Vetter with a pass to Crites, who returned it to Vetter and Hardy took the set for a kill.
[private] Vetter made an attack and Brown made a dig and Elizabeth Henderson saved it with Hana Hendrickson sending the ball over, then Moorefield volleyed into the net.
A kill and ace by Vetter put the Yellow Jackettes up 4-1.
Carlson made a spike, then the next serve went out.
Crites pushed the ball over and it was deflected out by the Lady Pirates.
Hardy served and it wasn’t returned, then Markwood made an attack and it was placed into the net by Paw Paw.
After Paw Paw hit the net again, Moorefield went up 11-4.
Carlson’s initial serve was returned into the net, then Vetter earned a point with a shifting push across the net.
Carlson delivered three consecutive aces for a 16-4 advantage.
Paw Paw’s Day scored on an attack as Vetter was too close to the net, then Vetter made an attack and it was save by Henderson and Maristy Crosco created a point.
The Yellow Jackettes hit the net on a volley, then Hendrickson served and it wasn’t returned despite a dig by Hardy, 16-8.
The Lady Pirates hit the ball out of bounds, then Markwood made four aces with jump serves and Hardy gained a point for a 22-8 lead,
Rinker assisted Vetter for a point, then Markwood finished the set with two aces, 25-8.
Paw Paw got the first point of the second set on a service error, then both teams volleyed into the net.
Carlson served four consecutive aces, then the ensuing serve was returned out.
Hardy made an attack and it was met with a dig by Paw Paw’s Janae Hott and ricocheted into the net.
Carlson found excellent accuracy again with four more aces served to take an 11-2 advantage.
Paw Paw hit the net, then there was a service error.
After the Lady Pirates made a long serve out, Crites stepped up and delivered three straight aces.
Markwood and McGregor both created points on attacks, then Crites served and the ball was sent back up into the ceiling.
Crites served four additional aces and another that ricocheted up the ceiling again for a 24-3 lead.
An attack by Moorefield went out of bounds, then Day served two aces sandwiched around an attack point by Halle Galloper as the Lady Pirates chipped into the deficit at 24-7.
Moorefield’s Alyson Simmons made a push point as the ball was deflected out for the second set win, 25-7.
Vetter made seven aces early in the third set as Moorefield took a 13-2 advantage in addition to four serves returned out.
Paw Paw picked up three points on a pair of net errors and a kill by Sami McGlade, 13-6.
Hardy served two aces, then Markwood made a kill before a couple attacks went out, 16-8.
Moorefield’s Macie Zirk delivered two aces and another serve wasn’t returned for a 23-9 lead.
The Yellow Jackettes had a couple volleys sail out of bounds, then Markwood had an attack which wasn’t returned.
The match ended on a serve by Markwood which ricocheted into the ceiling over the net, 25-11.
Moorefield travelled to Pendleton County yesterday and visits Petersburg next Monday for a tri-match with the Lady Wildcats.
