Hardy County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to a call on the morning of Thursday, May 11, involving an individual who was possibly armed and making comments which could be interpreted as suicidal.
The unidentified individual left a residence between Baker and Lost River and could not be immediately located by law enforcement.
According to Hardy County Sheriff’s Department Public Information Officer Dave Maher, schools at the East Hardy School Campus were locked down out of an abundance of caution.
[private] The E. A. Hawse Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, as well as the E. A. Hawse Medical Center and Baker Senior Apartments were put on alert.
The Hardy County 911 Center coordinated with the school Central Office and the other facilities.
The individual was located and disarmed without incident. The school campus was released to normal activity shortly before noon.
