EHEMS swept the Yellow Jackettes through effective volleys and serves as the 7th grade B-Team won 25-21 in both sets and the 8th grade A-Team secured the match 25-9 and 25-23 at Moorefield Middle School.
“I’m so proud of my girls. The seventh and eighth grade teams both played phenomenal games and I’m so excited for them. They’ve done so well this season and I couldn’t have asked for a more solid team on the court,” EHEMS Volleyball Coach Carrie Vance remarked.
Moorefield Middle B-Team had a six point lead in the first set, but the Lady Cougars fought back with eight consecutive points to secure a 25-21 victory.[private]
In the second set, Moorefield Middle’s Kaleigh Hunt served seven aces to begin the advantage, then EHEMS answered with six aces from Gabbie Miller and an error to tie it up.
Miller made several hits to tie the set again after a few volleys went awry.
EHEMS took a 16-13 lead on an ace by Autumn Crites before the next on sailed out of bounds.
MMS served out, then a serve by Miller was met with a carry.
EHEMS’s Emily Dyer and Emma Heishman created points to create a 21-15 lead.
Heishman made a huge smile and clapped after getting the point and was congratulated by her teammates.
“Honestly, seeing the excitement on my girls’ faces is the most rewarding part of coaching. They work so hard and to see their continued success makes me so proud,” Coach Vance commented.
After a serve into the net, MMS’s Breanna Green served an ace and notched a point on an attack for a 22-18 score.
A couple of mistakes by the Yellow Jackettes gave EHEMS points.
The set ended on kill by Miller as the Lady Cougars won 25-21.
EHEMS 8th grade started the first set with two aces from Courtney Shank, then MMS’s Jade Hinger notched a kill.
Caitlyn Ward launched an attack for the Lady Cougars and it wasn’t returned, then Victoria Ames delivered two aces, 5-1.
An attack by Lily Riggle was deflected into the net by the Yellow Jackettes, then Ames’ serve ricocheted out of bounds.
Ames made a dig on an attack by Hinger, then Makenzie Blair volleyed the ball and it was swallowed by the net on a return attempt, 11-4.
A dig by EHEMS’s Maddie Heishman was returned into the net, then the next serve found the net too.
On a serve by MMS’s Sara Carlson, a save was made by EHEMS’s Blair before Hinger notched a kill.
The Lady Cougars got an attack point from Shank, then Riggle served an ace for a 14-6 lead.
After an error, Blair served three aces and Ward made a kill to increase the lead to 19-7.
EHEMS recorded two more aces by Shank and the set finished with an ace from Ames for a 25-9 victory.
In the second set, the pace picked up and volleys were sent flying everywhere.
Each team made errors as the point margin remained close, then EHEMS 8th grade landed some aces throughout the set to win.
A couple of serves by MMS’s Hinger and Emily Kuykendall were not returned for an early 3-1 lead, then EHEMS’s Caitlyn Ward had an attack deflect out.
Jadyn Whetzel created a point off a pass from Maddie Heishman, but MMS responded with a kill by Carlson.
The Lady Cougars went up 10-5 on several aces by Heishman, net errors and a kill by Blair.
After a serve went awry, MMS’s Lily Iman had two serves return into the net and Hinger made a kill.
MMS tied the set at 10-all on an ace by Iman.
A number of attacks were missing the mark before Hinger served up an ace for MMS.
EHEMS gained a small lead on a few errors and an ace by Ward to go up 20-16.
The next serve landed out, then MMS’s Carlson had a serve returned out.
Ames made a volley and it was deflected out, then Maddie Heishman served an ace.
The Lady Cougars went up 23-20 on an attack point by Riggle, then her serve was sent back out of play
After a net error, MMS’s Taylor Harvey delivered an ace and Hinger created a point for a 24-23 score.
Riggle launched an attack and it was deflected out of bounds ending the match 25-23.
